Air conditioner basics

The first step in getting a new air conditioner installed is determining what size you need. You don't want one without sufficient power to cool your home, and getting an air conditioner that's too big can be more expensive and less comfortable.

An Air Conditioner is a cooling appliance that removes heat from the air in your home and discharges it outside through the refrigeration cycle. Unlike a Heat Pump that heats and cools both, an Air Conditioning condenser can only cool (remove heat one way).

A Heat Pump look just like an air conditioner on the outside. However, on the inside it has a few extra parts. such as a reversing valve, a thermal expansion valve and  a defrost board. Unlike a traditional Air Conditioner, a Heat Pump will reverse in the winter to remove heat from the outside air and discharge it into your home providing heat. It is much more energy efficient than standard electric resistance heating.
